Cape Town Venues

Sports Clubs

Sixteen clubs where a visitor can actually get on court. Most of the padel is bookable by anyone through the same app the members use. The tennis clubs take guests at a visitor rate and a few of them hire rackets. Two clubs still roll bowls on a green above the sea, and one squash club takes a phone call the day before.

A sports club is an establishment before it is a sport, and the useful ones here are the establishments that let a stranger in. Padel is the easiest of them, because almost every court in the city is bookable through the same app whether or not you are a member.

Tennis works differently. The clubs take visitors, but usually at a guest rate, inside a window, and with the organised social play reserved for members. Green Point hires out a racket and a hitting partner. Fresnaye opens its courts to guests between half past eleven and four. The multi-code clubs run both rules at once, so the same afternoon can be open on the padel courts and closed on the tennis.

Each club page lists the sports it offers and the access rules that go with them, because at the bigger clubs those rules are not the same for every court.
