Table Mountain

Cape Town's iconic flat-topped mountain, reached by one of the world's most scenic cableways.

Cape Town's defining landmark, rising more than 1,000 metres above the city with sweeping views across the Cape Peninsula.

Rising more than 1,000 metres above Cape Town, Table Mountain is the city's defining landmark and one of South Africa's most visited natural attractions. Its distinctive flat summit forms part of the Table Mountain National Park and offers sweeping views across the city, the Atlantic Ocean, Robben Island, Lion's Head and the Cape Peninsula.

The quickest way to reach the summit is aboard the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway. The rotating cable car provides panoramic views during the ascent, while the summit features a network of well-maintained walking paths, viewpoints, cafes and interpretation displays. Visitors can spend anything from an hour enjoying the scenery to half a day exploring the plateau.

Although the cableway makes the summit accessible to most visitors, Table Mountain remains a natural mountain environment where conditions can change quickly. Strong winds may temporarily close the cableway, so checking the weather before travelling is always recommended. On clear days, arriving early in the morning or later in the afternoon usually provides the most enjoyable experience and shorter queues.
