Lourensford Wine Estate

A historic Helderberg destination combining wine, gardens, dining, coffee, art, markets and outdoor adventure.

SOMERSET WESTWINE AND GARDENSMARKETS AND ADVENTURE

Lourensford Wine Estate offers far more than wine, bringing together gardens, restaurants, specialty coffee, art, family activities and outdoor experiences beneath the Helderberg.

Overview

Lourensford Wine Estate is a historic working farm at the foot of the Helderberg in Somerset West. Established in 1709, the estate combines wine, landscaped gardens, food, specialty coffee, art and outdoor experiences in one expansive destination.

The scale makes Lourensford particularly suited to a full day out. Visitors can move from the tasting room to restaurants and cafés, explore retail and art spaces, or plan cycling and trail-running experiences against a mountain backdrop.

Wine and Heritage

Lourensford’s modern wine story was revived after the estate changed ownership in 1998. The cellar follows a minimal-intervention philosophy, with ranges spanning accessible River Garden wines and more site-focused expressions from The Dome.

A Destination Estate

Beyond wine, Lourensford brings together The Millhouse Kitchen, a specialty coffee roastery, art, gardens, markets and event spaces. Its mix of children’s activities, wellness, retail and sport makes it one of the Helderberg’s most varied visitor destinations.

Conservation and the Landscape

Vineyards and orchards sit within a much larger landscape of mountain slopes, forests and indigenous vegetation. The estate’s natural setting shapes both the visitor experience and its commitment to protecting the land.

Visiting the Estate

The wine tasting room opens daily, while cellar tours require an appointment. Different businesses on the estate keep their own hours, so check individual venues and market schedules before travelling. Outside food, drinks and picnics are not permitted.
