Overview
Nestled in the rolling hills of the Stellenbosch Kloof, Jordan Wine Estate is one of South Africa’s most celebrated boutique wine estates. Renowned for its award-winning Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, it combines breathtaking scenery, exceptional wines, fine dining and luxurious accommodation in a tranquil setting overlooking vineyards, lakes and the Stellenbosch mountains.
Owned by Gary and Kathy Jordan, the estate has earned an international reputation for elegant wines that express the unique terroir of Stellenbosch. Visitors can enjoy seated tastings, gourmet cuisine and peaceful surroundings just 40 minutes from Cape Town.
History
Although the farm’s history stretches back more than 300 years, the modern Jordan story began in 1982, when Ted and Sheelagh Jordan purchased the property and began extensive vineyard redevelopment. Gary Jordan, a trained geologist, matched each grape variety to the soils and slopes best suited to it.
Gary and Kathy Jordan built their cellar in 1992 and released the first wines under the Jordan name in 1993, drawing on time spent working internationally to refine their approach. In the decades since, the family has grown the 164-hectare estate into one of Stellenbosch’s leading names, producing fiercely individual wines that combine New World fruit with classic Old World elegance and express the distinctive character of the Stellenbosch Kloof.
Terroir & Winemaking
As a trained geologist, Gary Jordan built the estate around a simple principle: match each grape variety to the soil type and slope best suited to it. The farm’s varied soils and hillside aspects, together with panoramic views over Table Mountain and False Bay, give each vineyard block its own personality. This site-driven approach is the foundation of Jordan’s internationally acclaimed Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and characterful white varietals.
Dining & Estate Experiences
Jordan offers far more than a tasting room. Visitors can enjoy seated wine tastings, contemporary farm dining at The Jordan Restaurant, casual fare at The Cellar Door and relaxed picnics, alongside luxury suites for those who wish to stay. Set among vineyards with sweeping mountain and valley views, the combination of exceptional wines, produce-focused cuisine and peaceful surroundings makes Jordan one of the Cape Winelands’ most rewarding destinations.
