The shortest of Robberg’s three circular routes, and the one most visitors have time for. It leaves the car park and heads straight into a mudstone cleft — the Gap itself — a split in the rock that carries evidence of the break-up of Gondwanaland around 120 million years ago. CapeNature gives the walk as 2.1 kilometres and about thirty minutes.
That half hour buys a surprising amount: the peninsula’s scale, the sea on both sides, and the geology at close range. It is the easiest of the three by CapeNature’s own description, and it is the sensible choice with small children, in poor weather, or when the wind is up.
The one warning the reserve repeats for every route on Robberg applies here too. Do not stand near the cliffs, particularly when the wind is strong.
