Overview

Breakfast Rock is the short walk at Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve, and the only Easy route there. Two kilometres there and back, around 135 metres of ascent, about forty-five minutes, with the first 450 metres following a gravel road before the path proper begins.

It is also the opening section of the Uitkyk, Du Toitskop and Vista routes, which makes it a useful way to test the ground. Walk to the rock, see how it feels, and either turn around or keep going. The permit is the same either way.

ParkingThe reserve’s main entry gate is on the Franschhoek Pass, the R45, a few minutes’ drive up the pass from the village and past Haute Cabrière. Parking is at the gate, and this walk starts and finishes there. Note that Mont Rochelle Hotel and Vineyard is a separate business on the other side of town, and that the Reservoir Street gate serves the Cats’ Path Trail rather than these routes.
