SANCCOB rescues, rehabilitates and releases seabirds that arrive ill, injured, abandoned or oiled, and African Penguins make up much of the intake. What makes it a visitor proposition rather than a charity you read about is that the doors are open. Tours run on the hour from nine in the morning to three in the afternoon, seven days a week, and a guide takes you behind the scenes through the facility for three quarters of an hour or so. Booking ahead is preferred, though walk-ins are taken if you are willing to wait for the next group. There is no handling and nothing is performed. You are watching a hospital work.
