The Dyer Island Conservation Trust built this as a purpose-designed marine bird rehabilitation centre and opened it in 2015. Their words for what happens inside are temporary care to diseased, displaced, injured, oiled and abandoned marine birds. Behind the viewing area sit a quarantine ward, an intensive care ward, a general ward, a laboratory and a pre-release conditioning pen, with a vet and a veterinary nurse on hand. The Trust also runs a penguin rescue line the public can call for stranded birds and a penguin ambulance that serves Dyer Island. For a visitor it is open every day from nine to four, with feeding at three, and there is coffee and a shop.
