Wellington Wine Walk

A guided walk from farm to farm through the Wellington valley, offered as single days or as longer itineraries.

The Wellington Wine Walk is a guided walking experience rather than a marked public trail. Accredited guides lead small groups between historic Huguenot farms, luggage is moved ahead, and walkers can choose a single day out or a longer itinerary with accommodation on the farms. Everything is booked in advance.

The Wellington Wine Walk is not a trail you can turn up and walk. It is a guided experience: accredited guides lead small groups between historic Huguenot farms in the Wellington valley, luggage is carried ahead on the overnight itineraries, and the whole thing is booked in advance. It is the most substantial walking product in Wellington, and it reaches farmland that is otherwise closed to visitors.

There are four one-day options. The Olive Walk covers about fourteen kilometres and finishes with an olive oil tasting. The Kuier Walk is about twelve kilometres, mostly level with a few uphills, and includes a buchu farm. The Heritage Walk is nine kilometres, described by the operator as downhill and level, easy walking, and takes in the history of Bain’s Kloof Pass with a traditional lunch. The Groenberg Walk is ten kilometres of energetic walking for the panoramic views.

Alongside the day walks the operator runs two, three and four day itineraries, with accommodation on historic farms along the way, and a corporate version for groups. These are separate products rather than sections of one fixed route, and the operator does not publish them as a single continuous trail. The walking is described as moderate, with long uphills, contour paths and downhill sections, and walkers are asked to be moderately fit rather than experienced mountaineers.

The season runs from March to November, with no walking on Sundays, and every product is booked directly with the operator.
