Cape Point Vineyards
Award-winning coastal wine estate overlooking Noordhoek Beach and the Atlantic Ocean.
Cape Point Vineyards combines exceptional cool-climate wines, panoramic ocean views, acclaimed dining and unforgettable sunsets, making it one of Cape Town’s most spectacular wine destinations.
Overview
Perched on the mountain slopes above Noordhoek, Cape Point Vineyards is one of South Africa’s most breathtaking wine estates. Overlooking Noordhoek Beach and the Atlantic Ocean, it has earned an international reputation for elegant cool-climate wines – particularly Sauvignon Blanc – produced from vineyards shaped by the nearby sea.
As the only wine estate on the narrow Cape Peninsula, Cape Point Vineyards represents a modern generation of Cape winemaking where location is everything. Cool ocean breezes, decomposed granite soils and long, slow ripening seasons create ideal conditions for wines with exceptional freshness, balance and minerality.
Visitors come as much for the scenery as the wine. Whether enjoying a relaxed tasting, a picnic overlooking the vineyards or one of the estate’s famous sunsets, Cape Point Vineyards offers one of the most memorable wine experiences in Cape Town.
History
Cape Point Vineyards was established in the late 1990s with a vision of producing world-class cool-climate wines from one of the Cape’s most unique vineyard sites. Although relatively young compared with many historic Cape estates, it quickly gained recognition for wines that express the distinctive coastal terroir of Noordhoek.
The estate has since become one of South Africa’s leading Sauvignon Blanc producers, collecting Old Mutual Trophy Awards, multiple Platter’s Five-Star ratings, Decanter International Trophies and numerous high Wine Spectator scores, while remaining focused on quality, sustainability and exceptional visitor experiences in one of the country’s most spectacular settings.
Coastal Terroir
Cape Point Vineyards owes much of its character to its remarkable location between mountain and ocean. The south-facing vines lie just over a kilometre from the cold Atlantic, and the confluence of Atlantic sea breezes and southeasterly winds off False Bay keeps the vineyards cool, promoting a long, slow ripening period so grapes can be picked at optimal ripeness.
Planted across roughly 20 hectares on two estates in Noordhoek and Scarborough, the vines grow in decomposed granite and clay soils that lend the wines vibrant natural acidity and concentrated flavour. These conditions are especially suited to Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Chardonnay, giving them the freshness and elegance for which the estate has become internationally recognised.
Wine & Sunset Experiences
The estate’s tasting room and picnic site overlook vineyards stretching towards Noordhoek Beach, creating one of the Cape’s most iconic wine settings. Visitors can enjoy guided tastings, generous picnic baskets and cheese platters, and relaxed afternoons watching the sun set behind the Atlantic Ocean.
Throughout the year, Cape Point Vineyards also hosts its popular Noordhoek Community Market, live-music evenings and outdoor experiences that have made it a favourite destination for both locals and international visitors.
