One of the world’s highest commercial abseils, dropping off the cliff below the upper cableway station with Camps Bay and the Twelve Apostles below you.
You step backwards off the edge 1,067 metres above the sea and go down 112 metres of cliff face, with the Atlantic, Camps Bay, Lion’s Head and the Twelve Apostles in view the whole way down. No experience is needed. The guides fit the harness, run the safety demonstration and talk you through it before you go over.
The whole thing takes about an hour, and that includes the briefing, the descent itself and the walk back up to the top, which takes around half an hour. Gear and guides are included, and spectators can watch from the top.
You get yourself to the top first, usually on the cableway, and the abseil site is beside the big wheel with the cables, visible as soon as you come out of the top station. Rain over the abseil site stops the operation, and the cableway stops running in high wind, so a clear morning down in the city is no guarantee that it is on.
