CapeNature call this the third largest breeding colony of African Penguins in the world, and a boardwalk carries you through the middle of it without the birds having to move. What makes Stony Point matter beyond the penguins is the cormorants. Four species breed and nest on the rocks beside the colony, Bank, Cape, Crowned and White-breasted, and the Bank Cormorant in particular is a bird most visitors will not see anywhere else. The old whaling station ruins sit on the same site. It is an easy stop on the coastal run between Gordons Bay and Hermanus, and the boardwalk closes half an hour before the gate.
