Oldenburg Vineyards
Rondekop flagship wines, regenerative vineyards and a focused tasting experience inside the Banghoek mountain amphitheatre.
Oldenburg combines its iconic Rondekop hill, eight natural terroir elements and regenerative farming with precision-made Chardonnay, Syrah and Bordeaux varieties.
Overview
Oldenburg Vineyards lies deep in the Banghoek Valley, surrounded by a dramatic mountain amphitheatre eight kilometres from Stellenbosch. At the centre of the estate stands Rondekop, the rounded hill that anchors its vineyards and flagship wine range.
The contemporary Tasting Room looks directly across this landscape, connecting each guided tasting with the slopes, winds and soils that shape the wines. Reservations are essential, keeping the experience focused and personal.
The Eight Natural Elements
Oldenburg describes its terroir through eight natural elements: the Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, surrounding mountain ranges, mountain amphitheatre, cool winds, elevation, soils and Rondekop itself.
The estate sits at roughly 410 metres above sea level. Cooling air and the enclosed mountain setting moderate afternoon and evening temperatures, while varied sites across Rondekop produce distinct expressions of Chardonnay, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and other cultivars.
Regenerative Farming
Regenerative farming and precision viticulture work together to improve soil health, biodiversity and vineyard resilience. Indigenous fynbos corridors, protected plant areas, cover crops, solar power and natural predators form part of the estate's conservation approach.
Oldenburg is recognised as a WWF Conservation Champion. Many vineyard tasks are completed by hand, supported by detailed training and close observation of each block.
The Rondekop Wines
The Rondekop range represents small selections from the estate's most expressive barrels. Una V is the flagship Chardonnay, Stone Axe the Syrah, Per Se the Cabernet Sauvignon and Rhodium the red blend.
The wider Oldenburg Vineyards collection includes Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Grenache Noir, Chenin Blanc and additional single-cultivar wines, offering a broader view of the property's soils and microclimates.
The Tasting Room
The Tasting Room is open Monday to Saturday and public holidays from 10:00 to 17:00. It is closed on Sunday, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Experiences range from the six-wine Oldenburg Vineyards tasting to focused Rondekop, Eight Elements, vertical and library tastings. Each includes a small platter of local cheese, crackers and olives, and advance reservations are essential.
