History
Waterford Estate was established in 1998 by the Ord and Arnold families, with a vision of creating a world-class wine estate focused on quality, elegance and hospitality. It quickly became known for its distinctive architecture, carefully managed vineyards and premium wines.
Founded in April 1998, the estate was developed by Jeremy Ord together with winemaker Kevin Arnold on a property formerly known as Stellenrust. From the beginning it was conceived as a place where architecture, landscape and winemaking exist in harmony. Its central courtyard, with the iconic fountain at its heart, tranquil setting and carefully planned vineyards quickly established Waterford as one of Stellenbosch’s most distinctive wine destinations, drawing visitors in search of a relaxed yet refined tasting experience.
Wine Philosophy
Waterford follows a philosophy rooted in the ancient soils of the Blaauwklippen Valley, allowing each varietal to express its own sense of place. Careful vineyard management, a gentle winemaking approach and meticulous blending produce wines of elegant balance and harmonious character. This dedication to terroir and sustainability has earned the estate an international reputation for premium Bordeaux-style reds, expressive Chardonnay and sustainably produced wines.
Signature Experiences
Waterford is celebrated for far more than its wines. Visitors can enjoy guided tastings in the estate’s courtyard, the internationally recognised Wine & Chocolate Experience, the Wine Drive Safari through the vineyards, cellar tours and relaxed dining surrounded by vineyards and mountain scenery. Personalised service and a peaceful atmosphere make Waterford one of Stellenbosch’s most memorable wine destinations.
