History

Although vineyards have existed on this mountainside for many years, the estate entered a new era in 2003 when diamond entrepreneur Laurence Graff purchased the property. He embarked on a complete transformation – replanting vineyards, building new wineries and restaurants, and creating extensive gardens to showcase South African flora alongside a world-class collection of contemporary African art.

Under Laurence Graff’s vision, Delaire Graff quickly became one of South Africa’s most prestigious wine estates. Every aspect of the property – from the architecture and indigenous gardens to the vineyards, restaurants and guest lodges – was carefully designed to create a destination where luxury, art and exceptional hospitality come together in one of the Cape Winelands’ most spectacular settings. The estate’s standing was recognised when it was named Best Vineyard in Africa in 2020, and it has since been honoured with two MICHELIN Keys for its accommodation.

Art & Design

Art forms the heart of the Delaire Graff experience. Handpicked by Laurence Graff OBE from his private collection, more than 400 works – contemporary African sculptures, paintings and installations – are displayed indoors and throughout the estate’s beautifully landscaped indigenous gardens, designed by celebrated horticulturist Keith Kirsten. Paired with striking architecture and interiors by the acclaimed David Collins Studio, the artwork turns the whole estate into an open-air gallery unlike any other wine farm in South Africa.
