De Eetkamer

Small plates in a courtyard

Small plates in a converted stable at the top of Dorp Street, with an oak-shaded courtyard. A short seasonal menu of punchy global flavours, served without pretension.

De Eetkamer means “the dining room”, and the name is doing real work. Chef-owner Marco Cardoso has taken a heritage building at the top end of Dorp Street — a stable, in a previous life — and made it feel more like eating at someone’s table than in a restaurant. The oak-shaded courtyard is the seat to ask for whenever the weather allows it.

The menu is short, seasonal and largely unbothered by trends. The Korean-style fried cauliflower has become a fixture the kitchen apparently dare not remove; around it you will find pan-fried gnocchi with pomodoro and pancetta, or line fish tartare with fermented garlic honey. The wine list carries a fair number of labels you will not see elsewhere in town, and the desserts are worth leaving room for.
