The Bloc's Melkbos gym occupies the old Koeberg Club, so alongside the training floor there is a 25-metre pool, a mini golf course and a coffee shop. Visitors can buy a single drop-in or a multi-session bundle without a membership, and the pool has a drop-in of its own.
The Bloc Melkbos opened in 2024 in the old Koeberg Club, a large site on the coast road north of Cape Town, and it is the operator's second gym after Blouberg. It is an official Hyrox training club, so the programming leans towards the mix of running and functional stations that Hyrox racing is built on.
The premises are unusually generous for a gym. Alongside the main training floor and the coffee shop there is a 25-metre swimming pool, a mini golf course and an entertainment area, all inherited from the club that was there before.
Visitors do not need a membership. The Bloc sells once-off packages for people training while they are in Cape Town: a single drop-in valid for any class on the schedule, or five- and ten-session bundles that run for three months. Packages are location specific, so choose the Melkbos option rather than Blouberg.
There is also a separate drop-in for the swimming pool alone, which is worth knowing about if you want the water rather than the workout.
Classes are coached and scaled to the individual, and the timetable covers CrossFit, strength and conditioning, Olympic weightlifting and aerobic capacity work. Check the schedule before you drive out, because access is by class rather than open-gym time.
