A casual wine and small plates room on Dorp Street from the Bertus Basson group. A good option for an evening that is not a full sit-down dinner.
Spek & Bone is Bertus Basson’s small-plates room on Dorp Street, and it solves a specific problem: somewhere to eat properly without committing to a full sit-down dinner. Order two or three things and a glass of red, then order two more if the evening is going well.
The room is narrow and unfussy, and the food is deliberately unpolished in the best sense — bold, generously salted, built to go with wine rather than to be photographed. Lunch and dinner, Monday to Saturday, and it fills on word of mouth alone.
