Kleinmond Golf Club

Nine greens with eighteen tees inside the Kogelberg Biosphere, with whales in the bay from July to October.

Holes18
Par72
Visitor accessOpen to visitors

Nine greens, eighteen tees. The second nine is played off different tee boxes, so a full round of par 72 over 5,761 metres gives you two genuinely different nines on the same ground. The club’s variety comes from the tees rather than from length.

Two practical things before you book. A separate water levy is charged per round on top of the green fee, so the rate card is not the whole figure, and the club has been cashless since November 2024. Visitors may book a week ahead, where members get two.

Kleinmond Golf Club
The course

The club describes an eco-friendly coastal course inside the Kogelberg Biosphere, with spectacular mountain and sea views in every direction, rare indigenous fynbos and local wildlife. It publishes a SAGU rating of 70.

Conservation is written into how you play it. Demarcated fynbos areas on holes 1, 9 and 18 are lateral out of bounds marked with half-green, half-red stakes, and the local rules state plainly that golfers are not allowed to enter the protected area.

The club is open 364 days a year, closing only on Christmas Day, from eight to five, extending to six in the morning until seven in the evening over the December and January peak.

Playing Kleinmond Golf Club as a visitor

The club states its philosophy directly: it is visitor friendly, and aims to provide a memorable and affordable experience to members and visitors alike.

Green fees are published as separate associated member and non-associated visitor lines, each split into nine and eighteen holes, with group fees on application. Club hire, golf car rental and pull car rental are all priced.

No caddies are available, which the club says in as many words, so plan to carry, use a trolley or hire a cart.

What is on site

A pro shop, a halfway house serving breakfasts, toasted sandwiches and light lunches, a well-stocked bar with draught beer, changing rooms and ample parking. Practice is a warm-up area for putting and chipping.

Facilities

This is a modest club focused on golf. The clubhouse has a bar and changing rooms, a halfway house serves refreshments during a round, and there is a pro shop with cart hire and parking. Practice is limited to a warm-up area for putting and chipping; there is no driving range.

Highlights

  • Nine greens with eighteen tees, so the second nine plays differently from the first
  • Whales often visible from the fairways between July and October, in the club's own words
  • Protected fynbos written into the local rules on holes 1, 9 and 18
  • Open 364 days a year, with extended hours over December and January

Frequently asked questions

How many holes is Kleinmond Golf Club?

Nine greens served by eighteen tees, played twice for a full round of par 72 over 5,761 metres. The alternate tees mean the second nine plays differently from the first. Both nine and eighteen-hole green fees are published.

Can visitors play Kleinmond Golf Club?

Yes, and the club says so plainly: it describes itself as visitor friendly and aims to give members and visitors alike a memorable and affordable experience. Visitors may book a week in advance.

Where can I find Kleinmond Golf Club green fees?

On the club's fees and rates page, which separates associated member from non-associated visitor rates at nine and eighteen holes. Note that a water levy is charged separately per round, and the club is cashless.

Is Kleinmond Golf Club the same as Arabella?

No. Both are at Kleinmond but they are entirely separate clubs. Arabella is a resort course on the Bot River lagoon; Kleinmond Golf Club is a nine-green village club inside the Kogelberg Biosphere.

Can you see whales from Kleinmond Golf Club?

The club says so: whilst walking the fairways one can often see whales playing in the bay, notably from July to October. The course sits on the Whale Coast, so the golf season and the whale season overlap.
