Atlantic Beach Links

A links-style course through the dunes at Melkbosstrand, with five tee sets and views across the Atlantic to Table Mountain.

One rule is published in writing and it matters: the course is closed on Mondays.

Weekends are less clear. The club’s rules restrict how members book guests at weekends but say nothing about green-fee visitors, and yet the visitor tee sheet has shown no times on any Saturday or Sunday across a thirty day window. Tuesday to Friday is the dependable window, and a weekend round is worth a phone call rather than an assumption.

Atlantic Beach Links
The course

The course winds through undulating dunes, with fairways and greens edged by the local fynbos, about seven hundred metres from the beach at Melkbosstrand. The views run back across the Atlantic to Table Mountain. The club calls it links-style rather than a true links.

Five tee sets are named after local wildlife and stretch the course a long way: Cobra at 6,228 metres, Springbok at 5,951, Porcupine at 5,457, Sunbird at 5,016 and Grysbokkie at 4,498. The club explicitly encourages playing the set that suits your game, taking the weather into account. Designed by Mark Muller and open for play since 2000.

Playing Atlantic Beach Links as a visitor

The visitor tee sheet is public and loads without a login, an account or an identity number, showing the full month ahead with times and rates.

Green fees are banded by season, winter from June to October and summer from November to May, with visitor categories for peak and off-peak times plus junior and student rates. There is no affiliated and non-affiliated split.

Tee-off windows move with the season, running later in summer than in winter, so an afternoon round is not always available. Visitors may not use privately owned golf carts.

Practice, and what is on site

The driving range at the Sports and Fitness Centre runs to 300 metres with twenty-three mat bays, some undercover, alongside a large putting green and a chipping green with a bunker. It is open to members and to visitors with a booked tee time.

The clubhouse carries a pro shop, the Sunbird Restaurant, the Milkwood Deli and the Links Bar, and The Lodge sits on the 10th fairway if you want to stay on site.

Facilities

The clubhouse holds the pro shop, the Sunbird restaurant and the Links Bar, which doubles as a function room, with the Strandveld boardroom for smaller meetings. Practice is catered for by a 300m driving range with mat bays, plus putting and chipping greens with a bunker. The wider estate adds The Lodge for overnight stays, a fitness studio, tennis courts and a pool.

Frequently asked questions

Can visitors play Atlantic Beach Links?

Yes. The club runs a public visitor tee sheet showing a month of dates, times and rates with no login required, and its rate card carries visitor green fee categories.

Is Atlantic Beach Links closed on Mondays?

Yes. The club's own rules state that the course is closed on Mondays, though it may be made available to residents at the club's discretion.

Can visitors play Atlantic Beach Links on a weekend?

No published rule bars green-fee visitors at weekends, but the visitor tee sheet has shown no Saturday or Sunday times across a full month ahead. Tuesday to Friday is the reliable window, and a weekend round is worth confirming by phone.

Where can I find current Atlantic Beach Links green fees?

There is no standalone fees page. Visitor rates show live inside the booking system for your chosen date, and are banded into winter and summer seasons.

Is Atlantic Beach a true links course?

The club describes it as links-style rather than links, built through natural dunes with fynbos rather than on classic linksland. In wind, over five tee sets, it plays much like one.

How to Get There

DirectionsTake the R27 (West Coast Road) north towards Melkbosstrand and turn west into Birkenhead Drive, which runs off the R27 into the estate. Head for the Golf Club entrance off Birkenhead Drive rather than the residential boom gates further in. Atlantic Beach is an access-controlled estate, so confirm gate access when you book your tee time.
